The Cosmic Comedy and Me, by #BDF

28 Jun

For all the masks I’ve loved to wear, It’s time I take a great last dare, and give out TRUTH that in my youth I hadn’t tools to tell… For all the costumes I would choose, it’s more the one i must now LOSE, that will determine if this play goes over well… I thought I’d played the part, but, oh, how it’s played me, The lights come up, the LAUGHS erupt, I finally SEE… This Cosmic Comedy, and Me… #BDF

Farther Away

21 Jan

ladies come and go, sad sometimes, and even so
I know they’ve always got a reason
as I watch ’em walk, stepping to a ticking clock
I see a lonely sense of romance about self treason

with fear for every corner turning
’round the bend and run away
getting closer and closer, I keep pushing love
farther away,

I’ve been trying to move along, eventually they’ll all be gone
I may be lonely when the evening ends
my trust has been abused, I’ve had my love misused
tell me, god, who are these demons that I call my friends

its a nearly moonless night, I’ve only got my heart to fight
i’ve only got my conscience to listen to
I’m past the point of no return, another lesson in love to learn
the one that’s all about betraying you

my hearts my safest home, so far as i’ve always known
a perfect picture’s all I’m hoping for
if I try to trust again, will I be happy then
the effort I can make is always poor

Law, by #BDF

5 Dec

johnny pretends he’s a thug and he don’t sweat the rain,
a cold brando grin sips a bottle of gin and he knows he’s just feedin’ his pain
he’s a night singing soldier, absent without leave again
his cigarette hangs with the purposeful poise of a pool que that knocks ’em all in
and sometimes a love is a cold one way street
littered with losses and red light defeat
but it leads you on home to a haven where lovers withdraw
and sometimes we follow a love like we follow a law
hope cries, 11th and Pine, come a 4 am drone
by the wet freeway roar, on a steamy top floor, she breathes out a heartaching moan
her jasmine perfume is a cloud, ’round her glitterpink frown
her fists pull her hair, shoot up into the air, like a cowgirl in a sunset showdown
and sometimes a love is an infinite road
and each warning sign’s an unbreakable code
and bound to the byway, we push the last limit we saw
and sometimes we follow a love like we follow a law
hope’s in a hands and knees crawl to the knocking door toll
it swings open wide, johnny saunters inside, with the thrill of a dice players roll
a forgiving amnesia that flees you away from all pain
into his arms and his “made for her” charms, love, abiding in each once again
and sometimes a love is a cold one way street
littered with losses and red light defeat
but it leads you on home to a haven where lovers withdraw
and sometimes a love is an infinite road
and each warning sign’s an unbreakable code
and bound to the byway, we push the last limit we saw
and sometimes we follow a love like we follow a law
